Email question: What’s the best way to increase the useful life of a sticky pad?
No two ways about it, sticky pads are a staple for stimmers of any degree of experience. While sticky pads are relatively inexpensive, when you consider the number that you will use in a lifetime of stimming, it can pay to squeeze the most out of each one!
First, let’s discuss what kills the life of a pad. There are two major factors: total hours of usage and the number of times the pad is applied and removed. Seldom is a pad thrown away for excessive hours of usage. Usually, the gel becomes ineffective due to the number of applications. Therefore, the best way to extend the life of a pad is to renew the gel.
Take a pad in need of new life and lay it on its non-gel side. Apply a spot of Conductive Adhesive Gel (about the size of a pea for the medium pad, less for the small pad, two spots for the large pad) and spread it with your finger over the entire surface. Next follow the same procedure with Electrode Gel. After applying and spreading both gels, give the pad a trial run to see if it suits your taste for the proper amount of stickiness. Too sticky? Mix in a little more electrode gel. Not sticky enough? A little more adhesive gel will do the trick.
