Braxton's quickie for the day...
Email question: Is there such a thing as the correct amount of lube, or is it just a matter of personal preference?
When I say lube, I really mean electrode gel. Silicone-based lubes should be avoided due to their potential to degrade electrodes.
The use of lube is a mixed bag. It’s certainly safe to say that nobody wants to insert a dry electrode. That sounds painful just typing the sentence! The flip-side is that because lube is a conductor, it will dilute the signal by spreading it over a much large area.
In my opinion, the correct amount of lube is the minimal amount that will facilitate proper insertion. There’s no getting around the fact that each of us has to learn this via the Goldilocks method: sooner or later we arrive at the “just right" amount.
