Braxton's quickie for the day...
In response to the quickie on dong quai (three quickies back), I have received several emails expressing surprise at finding out that a man’s body contains estrogen. Yes, it’s true that men are universally equated to testosterone, but hormone reality is not quite that simple.
To set the record straight, both men and women utilize both testosterone and estrogen. The familiar part of this, for most people, is that men are testosterone-dominant and women are estrogen-dominant. When Mother Nature decides it’s time to take away the punch bowl from the Reproduction Party, the hormone dominance often starts to erode.
Another hormone that is shared between the genders is prolactin, which makes itself evident in radically different ways. For the ladies, it’s the hormone which induces lactation at childbirth. For the men, it’s responsible for the temporary loss of erection which follows orgasm, otherwise known as the refractory period.
